History of Defacto

Defacto Solutions Limited was founded in August 1991 by three ex-Tetra employees Alec Willis, Tom O’Brien and Gary Cassinelli. The aim of the business was to work closely with Tetra to provide consulting and bespoke programming services and resources to aid the Tetra Resellers.

As well as providing a valuable customization service, the company developed a number of add-on modules including the original Configure-to-Order module in association with Apex Systems.

The module was successful and was subsequently acquired by Tetra.

The business grew and when Sage bought Tetra in 1997, Defacto became a Sage Complementary Developer and ISV and continued to produce solutions for the Sage product line, harnessing the potential of emerging technologies while designing and creating robust and useable solutions.

In 2004 the close ties with Sage were further cemented when Sage, seeing the potential in the Defacto products, moved to acquire the Product Management, Production Backflush and Manufacturing extensions modules.

Today Defacto operates from its own offices in Sheffield with staff demonstrating combined Sage experience of 150 years. The company remains privately owned by one of the founding members, is self-financing and has no loans or debts to service.

With over 25 modular add-ons, 2,000 customizations and more than 500 customers Defacto looks forward to celebrate its 25 Year Anniversary in 2016.
