Product Configurator

Using the intimate understanding of the Product Configurator module gained from key Defacto consultants leading the original design and development team, we probably have the widest experience of modelling and implementing Sage Configurator based solutions. Product Configuration projects typically involve a requirements gathering phase often involving management staff spanning all disciplines of the business. This is followed by consultation and design sessions where our team helps select and propose the best features from the Configurator tools. With the design agreed, the initial prototype is created.

One of the most powerful aspects of the Configuration module is that example screens and functionality can be produced very quickly and revised easily which significantly reduces modelling time. It is even possible to produce a mock-up to demonstrate the “look and feel” of the final solution and we can sometimes even do this in a few hours during the course of an initial demonstration. As the model and rules are defined with the module, the capacity for producing front-end solutions using the Sage Configuration is virtually unlimited.

Working closely with business partner, CPiO, we have produced a number of CTO solutions including a "Boiler Configurator" for Hamworthy Engineering, a "PVC Door configurator" for Portal Products and a "Frame and Door Configurator" for Homesafe.

We have created a "Bus Configurator" with business partner, Pinnacle, for a WrightBus in Northern Ireland from which they now generate all their design bills of material.

Working directly with Sage, we have configured Gear-Boxes for Flender, Desktop Computers for Tulip and Acer, and we have demonstrated how to produce configurators for publishing and mailshots for IDD and MMG and Wrapid and identity/access cards for 4DM.

Our configurator projects extend into South Africa and the Americas where we have helped Trellidor, produce a "Sliding Door System Configurator" and TMi to configure "Furniture Systems".

We can support existing systems if required and help with upgrades, platform ports and maintenance work.

Our consultants are also available to run training courses covering all aspects of the module.

Alec Willis also runs "Ask the Expert" white-board sessions periodically - contact us for details.

We often also construct hybrid solutions combining the power and database security of the Sage Configurator as the back-end tier with the richer user interface afforded by Microsoft controls from the .NET environments.

Development

With around 150 years combined experience of creating and maintaining Sage solutions our developers have an in depth understanding of the Sage modules and the development process.

We have produced more than twenty modular products since Defacto was established in 1992 and we specialize in providing add-on functionality for Sage ERP X3, Sage ERP 1000, Line 500  in specific areas.

Some of the modules we have written have been adopted by Sage and we continue to work closely with Sage to improve the range and diversity of their Enterprise solutions.

As an accredited Sage Developer we produce fully compatible modular add-ons for the Sage top-end range of products using the same tools, libraries and systems in use at Sage.

Our products are supplied with a maintenance warranty and a support agreement which means they are guaranteed to follow the Sage road map and support forthcoming projects so you can be sure that our modular products will extend into your future plans.

We support the main strategic platforms on which Sage products are offered and we provide service packs to match Sage releases, operating systems and database upgrades as they become available.

Check out the Products section of our web site to see some of our best sellers.

Our developers have experience working with Unix and Windows platforms and wide ranging skills such as C and C# programming, the Windows .NET architecture, HTML 5, Java and ASP Web development, Database design, optimization and management and the Microsoft Office and Back Office products.

Alec Willis, head of development at Defacto, spent five years with the Development Division of Tetra pioneering the early manufacturing modules for Line 500 before leaving to set-up Defacto. He has a rich history of product development working for CAD Centre, Tektronix and Davy Corporation. He also worked in producing Uniplan for ICL, one of the first PC based accounting and manufacturing business systems packages. He is a Microsoft Certified Developer and Systems Engineering.

Modifications

One of the principle services that the Defacto team offers is effective modifications to the standard Sage Line 500 and Sage 1000 product range. With around 100 years combined experience of creating and maintaining Sage solutions our developers have an in depth understanding of the Sage modules and how they can be best adapted to suit special requirements. Where possible we will propose re-useable, generic modifications to future proof the solutions we offer to customers.

We use the same care whether we are undertaking minor modifications to system functionality or creating substantial sub-system changes to ensure that we meet and exceed customer expectation every time.

We can start from a statement of requirement or we can provide a consultant to help determine and document your needs. We will produce a formal specification explaining the changes we proposed, how they meet your requirement and how they will work. We discuss and agree this specification before we start to make the changes so you can be sure you know what we will provide.

Marcus Kendrew is Development Manager at Defacto:

Defacto is able to respond and react quickly to specific customer requests. Some of our projects are small, one day modifications and others extend into months of development. Whatever the size of the project, we follow a common process of specification, design, implementation and installation support, with a sign-off at each stage.

Marcus has recently been working on the latest release of Sage 1000 for Bolton plastics who use advanced technology in their blow moulding and casting designs.

Forms Extensions

The Sage Line 500 Universal Client provides a number of options for extension and integration.   Sage ERP 1000 provides similar options using JAVA extensions.

Defacto Solutions can help develop and customize your Sage Line 500 and Sage 1000 environments and enhance the experience.

Our team of Microsoft Certified developers have expertise in the .NET, HTML and Java environments and includes web specialists, database experts and Visual Basic and Java developers.

Don’t be constrained to vanilla Sage front-ends, give us a call and find out how we can help you.
